Associate Dean for Research and Research Services NYU's Division of Libraries seeks a creative, strategic, and user-focused Associate Dean for Research and Research Services to provide strategic leadership and vision for advancing the Division of Libraries' support of research across the disciplines at NYU.? This newly configured position will lead a talented and diverse group of librarians and specialists in establishing collaborative strategies to support research in NYU's academic departments, institutes, centers, and interdisciplinary programs. This position's portfolio includes the Division of Libraries' Humanities & Social Sciences, Business & Government Documents, Sciences, Data Services, and Digital Scholarship departments as well as the Avery Fisher Center, the Bern Dibner Library, and supervision of library staff within the Institute of Fine Arts Library, the Library of the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World, and the Courant Institute Library. The Associate Dean for Research and Research Services focuses on the Division of Libraries' support of the entire research lifecycle, from discovery to dissemination. Reporting directly to the Dean of the Division and serving as a member of the Libraries' Senior Leadership Team, the Associate Dean for Research and Research Services will clearly articulate, develop, and implement strategic directions and objectives supporting the library's commitment to inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity.? Implementing a strong, coherent Division of Libraries portfolio of services that support the entire research lifecycle. Providing strategic leadership and vision for teams of subject liaisons and functional experts (e.g., data services librarians, digital scholarship librarians, reference specialists) consisting of 45+ FTE. Enhancing the Division of Libraries' existing strengths in data services, digital scholarship, and liaison librarianship. Developing programs and services to maximize the research impact of NYU faculty and students. Cultivating partnerships with research offices across NYU, including with Associate Deans for Research, Research Computing, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research. Representing the Division of Libraries on NYU-wide research-focused committees and task forces. Advocating for and cultivating an environment of inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity that provides a welcoming community and workplace culture that values diversity of thought and backgrounds. Fostering opportunities for professional growth, scholarship, and service. Inspiring and leading organizational change, building trust, and nurturing innovation and creativity. Participating in shared decision making around personnel actions, resource management, and development of policies for all library operations and services, as a member of the Division of Libraries' Senior Leadership Team. Representing the Division of Libraries locally, nationally, and internationally on all matters related to research and research support. Collaborating with other Senior Leadership Team members to pursue external funding for the Division of Libraries.
Knowledge of the evolving research landscape in higher education with an understanding of the research library's role in that environment. Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and foster innovation. Proven leadership, management, and interpersonal skills which encourage teamwork, collaboration, and relationship- Demonstrated commitment to the creation of diverse, inclusive cultures of equity and belonging. Ability to lead a team in the provision of scalable services that enable new forms of scholarship and disseminate research results. Experience in creating, delivering, and evaluating user-centered services and programs in support of research. Strong commitment to staff engagement and development. Superior written and oral communication skills. Strong record of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement. Minimum of seven years' relevant professional experience with increasing administrative responsibility. Minimum of five years' experience managing and mentoring staff. A Master's degree in a relevant subject area, e.g., an ALA-accredited MLS in library or information science. Note: To be considered for tenure, the successful candidate must have completed two advanced degrees, one of which must be an ALA-accredited MLS.
Second graduate degree. Experience with initiating grant opportunities and/or working on grant-funded project
